R&D Excavating of Crestline won a Richland County Land Bank contract to demolish the former West Park Shopping Center on Mansfield's Park Avenue, submitting the lowest of nine bids at $886,845. The project is funded through a $1 million Ohio Department of Development brownfield grant and includes asbestos removal on the 17-acre site. Unlike R&D's earlier Westinghouse job, materials cannot be crushed onsite due to commercial zoning. Work must start within 30 days and finish by end of May, though the company expects completion by December.
Building demolition tied to a brewery project in downtown Steubenville, Ohio, sent the structure's front wall into Market Street, snagging power lines and knocking out three street lights. City Manager Michael Johnson attributed the collapse to wind catching the building during demolition. AEP is scheduled to return Wednesday to rewire the affected lights on North Fourth Street, though damaged poles will wait for replacement until construction wraps up. A resident disputes that water suppression has been consistent, citing rock-cutting without spraying the prior week.
Residents near Smead and Lincoln in Toledo, Ohio, say dust from demolition at the former Doehler-Jarvis factory site is coating cars, entering homes and coinciding with a recent hazardous air quality alert. The Lucas County Land Bank, which owns the site under a $2 million cleanup grant, has not determined future use for the property. Land Bank CEO David Mann said he will talk with contractors about reducing dust and asked residents to contact the Land Bank with concerns.

Aster Oil Field took four combined abatement-and-demolition jobs in Cadiz, Freeport and Rumley Township. Raze International won four abatement-only contracts on East College Street and in Hopedale, while Dig It Man Excavating secured the matching demolition-only work on those same sites; Neals Rolloff & Demolition and Damian Kovarik also bid but were not selected.
