The Wheeling Historic Landmarks Commission voted to recommend demolition of several buildings on 14th Street between Water and Main streets, clearing the site for the $58.7 million JC Lando waterfront hotel development. Wheeling City Council approved a $130,000 contract with Reclaim Company LLC of Fairmont, W.Va., for asbestos abatement and demolition of the vacant former TCI of West Virginia building at 2184 National Road in Elm Grove. The bid beat competitors Raze International ($325,957) and Edgco Inc. ($184,000), and work is funded through West Virginia's Dilapidated Properties Program. Officials expect completion by September and anticipate temporary road closures near the Junior Avenue Bridge during demolition.
