Crews demolished the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia in 2017 using roughly 240 tons of explosives, then left the resulting 200,000-plus tons of concrete on site as backfill, raising the crater to about 14 feet to match surrounding grade. The Georgia World Congress Center Authority later built three structures atop that fill: the Home Depot Backyard tailgating area, the Orange Deck parking structure with over 600 spaces, and a 976-room convention hotel that opened in January 2024.

The old Chester Bridge in Chester, Illinois, is scheduled for implosion Monday, September 28, a date pushed back a week after unforeseen issues between the construction company and Union Pacific Railroad. Charges will be set to drop the span straight down and break it into sections for crane removal, with truss pieces cleared from the river within 48 hours before the channel reopens to boat and barge traffic. Roads to the riverfront close at 6 a.m., and bad weather could delay the blast to Sept. 29.

Crews in Portland, Oregon, completed a controlled blast demolition of the fire-damaged Centennial Mills water tower along the Willamette River, more than two weeks after an Aug. 2 fire left the structure unstable. Remaining walls will next come down using a high-reach excavator, with crews monitoring wall stability throughout. Officials say the site is still too dangerous for entry, delaying efforts to verify or recover human remains, and expect the area to reopen in about two weeks. Separately, Synergy Environmental and subcontractor Lions Contracting are handling fire debris cleanup nearby.

The former EDS headquarters in Plano, Texas, came down Sunday in an 8 a.m. controlled implosion, clearing the site near Legacy Drive and Parkwood Boulevard for AT&T's new campus. Authorities warned nearby residents of noise, vibrations and temporary road closures during the event.

A leftover stick of dynamite detonated at the Commercial Street bridge implosion site on Pittsburgh's Parkway East, about 24 hours after the initial blast, when a piece of cleanup equipment struck it. PennDOT District 11's John Meyler confirmed the incident, caught on construction cameras around 7:40 a.m. on the 17th. No injuries or equipment damage resulted, crews resumed a second debris sweep, and work restarted about 12 hours later; PennDOT does not plan further investigation into the contractor.

Swire Properties brought down the former 23-story Mandarin Oriental hotel and its six-story parking garage at 500 Brickell Key Drive in Miami on April 12, following nearly two years of planning with the City of Miami, The BG Group, Controlled Demolition Inc. and Moss Construction. Debris removal could take up to six months before groundbreaking, anticipated in late 2026. Site work included container walls, temporary barges, vibration and air monitors, and a baseline marine survey of Biscayne Bay. The 66- and 34-story replacement towers target 2030 completion.

Seven Vestas V66-1.65 MW turbines at the Madison Wind Farm in Madison, New York, were brought down September 18 using base detonation instead of crane dismantling, chosen for speed, lower cost, reduced safety risk and no crane-related land impact. Built in 1999-2000 as New York's first wind farm, the site had reached the end of its 20-to-25-year lifespan and become uneconomical to maintain. Crews will now dismantle and haul away the fallen turbines, clear debris, and restore the land to near pre-wind conditions.
