Chester Bridge over Mississippi River demolished Monday
The old Chester Bridge, spanning the Mississippi River between Illinois and Missouri, came down Monday morning. Built in 1946 after a tornado destroyed the 1942 original, the narrow span had shown visible wear, with parts of the pavement and steel deteriorated. It closed in late July and has been replaced by the Don Welge Memorial Bridge.
