See the demolition of the state Route 8 bridge in Akron

Crews brought down the old state Route 8 hi-level bridge over the Cuyahoga River Valley in Akron, Ohio, on Sept. 27, 2026, using explosive charges. The Ohio Department of Transportation, District 4, says the 1953-built span had carried more than 121,740 vehicles per day. Workers installed protective barriers on fencing before the blast, and ODOT site project engineer Joshua Smith was present. Akron Fire Department personnel and spectators watched the structure fall into the valley.
