200-foot office tower imploded in seconds in metro Atlanta
An 18-story office tower on Century Boulevard in Chamblee, Georgia, came down in an implosion lasting two to three seconds. Dave Savignano of Cartersville-based Atlas Demolition oversaw the explosive charge placement, complicated by the building's triangular shape. Built in 1981 and once home to the state revenue department, the tower's owner, Highwoods Properties, had scrapped a $91 million apartment conversion as unfeasible.
