Seven turbines felled at Madison Wind Farm in Madison, NY, on September 18

Seven Vestas V66-1.65 MW turbines at the Madison Wind Farm in Madison, New York, were brought down September 18 using base detonation instead of crane dismantling, chosen for speed, lower cost, reduced safety risk and no crane-related land impact. Built in 1999-2000 as New York's first wind farm, the site had reached the end of its 20-to-25-year lifespan and become uneconomical to maintain. Crews will now dismantle and haul away the fallen turbines, clear debris, and restore the land to near pre-wind conditions.
