Cambridge Springs Borough Council has unanimously awarded XL Excavating a contract to demolish the former Iron Horse Saloon at 195 S. Main St. Borough Manager Sandy Pude said the work must be completed by Dec. 31. The borough acquired the building through eminent domain after a three-year dispute with owner James Byers, who ignored a court order to tear it down himself. The borough has also received a $20,000 Blight Revitalization Grant toward the project.

Demolition at the former Vermont Yankee nuclear plant in Vernon is about 99 percent complete, according to NorthStar Group Services executive chairman Scott State. Roughly 28,000 cubic yards of reactor building concrete went to Waste Control Specialists' Texas disposal site, with another 28,000 cubic yards of local quarry fill used to restore the area. About $8.5 million remains of the $602 million trust fund, with physical decommissioning expected to finish in 2027. Remaining work includes removing the water discharge structure early next year, before NRC review allows any partial site release.

Crews in Albany, New York, have finished asbestos abatement at the 11-story Central Warehouse, removing more than 4,500 tons of contaminated material. Starting September 21, overnight crews will spend a week dismantling the rail bridge connecting the building to an Amtrak spur, cutting steel tracks and girders, with road closures expected nearby. Scaffolding installation follows on the south side, and full structural demolition begins in December, continuing through winter given the site's proximity to active rail lines. The work clears a 1.1-acre site for future redevelopment.

MoDOT crews used excavators and bulldozers to bring down the U.S. Route 50 bridge in Lee's Summit, Missouri, on Sept. 15, clearing the way for a $25 million replacement and interchange upgrade at the Route 291 North Junction. The project, funded through a statewide cost-sharing program and city TIF funds, also includes relocating Blue Parkway's north outer road and improving 7th Terrace. MoDOT expects the work, along with related lane reconfigurations, to be finished by the end of 2026.

Crews in Orchard Park, New York, began demolishing the 53-year-old former Highmark Stadium in May, after the Bills played their final game there in January and power was disconnected. Crews began tearing down the Holley House in downtown Aiken, South Carolina, on Sept. 16, with a section of Room 127 brought down Sept. 17. The work follows the City of Aiken's Sept. 11 closing on a real estate deal transferring the Hotel Aiken building and adjacent properties to Oliver Hospitality. Plans for the site include a three-story mixed-use building on Bee Lane, a preserved McGhee Block façade, a 200-car parking garage at the Warneke Cleaners location, and a public courtyard south of the hotel.

Building demolition tied to a brewery project in downtown Steubenville, Ohio, sent the structure's front wall into Market Street, snagging power lines and knocking out three street lights. City Manager Michael Johnson attributed the collapse to wind catching the building during demolition. AEP is scheduled to return Wednesday to rewire the affected lights on North Fourth Street, though damaged poles will wait for replacement until construction wraps up.
