Crews fix manipulator arm at Oak Ridge's Building 3029, avoid 6-month delay
Crews at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, repaired a failed remote manipulator arm inside the legacy Building 3029 hot cells, avoiding an estimated six-month delay. The Department of Energy's Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management and contractor United Cleanup Oak Ridge used the mechanical drive from an inactive left-hand arm to fix the damaged right arm. The building holds 18 legacy high-dose radiological sources that must be removed before demolition can proceed.
