Demolition begins at former Lindy Boggs hospital in New Orleans, $16 million project underway

Crews have begun stripping steel coverings from the former Lindy Boggs Medical Center in New Orleans' Mid-City, the first step before a two-month asbestos remediation phase and six to eight months of structural demolition. The city and owner Woodward Interests are splitting the $16 million project, with the city covering $11.5 million toward demolition and a four-million-gallon stormwater retention pond. Woodward Interests will secure the site, control dust, and require covered debris trucks. A mixed-use development is planned afterward.
