Old jail building demolished at Shreveport police HQ, $22,152,000 rebuild advances

Demolition of the former jail building at Shreveport Police Headquarters, 1234 Texas Avenue, is complete, with debris removal nearing finish and slab removal next before grading begins. Hand Construction is handling the $22,152,000 project, funded by the 2021 bond, with about 68 workers on site doing framing, mechanical, roofing and masonry work. Foundation concrete for the new addition is targeted for the week of August 3, 2026, while the existing four-story building is being stripped to its frame rather than fully razed.
