Huntsville Summit Apartments demolition begins after 50 years, new senior housing planned

Crews have begun tearing down the 8-story Huntsville Summit apartment building at 111 Walker Avenue NE in downtown Huntsville, Alabama. Neighborhood Concepts, which acquired the property in 2025, is clearing the site for Meridian Commons, a $22 million, 100-unit senior and disability housing project backed by $4.73 million in city ERA2 funds and $14.4 million in financing from Redstone Federal Credit Union. Opening is planned for 2027.
