Field house demolition begins at Flint Central, part of $100 million high school rebuild

Demolition crews began tearing down the Napoleon J. LaVoie Field House at Flint Central High School in Flint, Michigan, on July 13, 2026, using a crane to clear the site for a new campus. The $100 million rebuild is funded by a Charles Stewart Mott Foundation grant announced in May, following a June 17 groundbreaking. Flint Community Schools Superintendent Kevelin Jones says the project includes abatement work. Construction continues through 2028, with the new high school targeted to open that fall.
