Crews begin demolishing 9,000-square-foot facility at West Valley Demonstration Project

The Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management has begun tearing down the nearly 9,000-square-foot Fuel Receiving and Storage Facility at the West Valley Demonstration Project, a year after crews completed demolition of the site's Main Plant Process Building. Prep work included isolating utilities and removing hazardous materials, and crews already removed the building's exterior and a 100-ton crane before continuing structural teardown. Debris is loaded into intermodal containers for offsite rail disposal, with water spray, air monitoring and radiation control technicians in place during the work. West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the EM contractor managing the project.
