Rail bridge removal starts at Albany's Central Warehouse before December demolition

Crews in Albany, New York, have finished asbestos abatement at the 11-story Central Warehouse, removing more than 4,500 tons of contaminated material. Starting September 21, overnight crews will spend a week dismantling the rail bridge connecting the building to an Amtrak spur, cutting steel tracks and girders, with road closures expected nearby. Scaffolding installation follows on the south side, and full structural demolition begins in December, continuing through winter given the site's proximity to active rail lines. The work clears a 1.1-acre site for future redevelopment.
