Downtown Phoenix YMCA closes after 75 years as demolition request faces 60-day hold

The Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA at 352-356 N. First Ave. in Phoenix closes Sept. 30 after nearly 75 years. Dickens Quality Demolition LLC has filed a demolition application on behalf of the building owners. Phoenix's Historic Preservation Office says the building is eligible for the city's historic register, triggering a 60-day hold on demolition; if the Historic Preservation Commission initiates designation during that window, demolition would be paused while the process continues. The Valley of the Sun YMCA says it plans to rebuild on the site.
