Avenida South garage sky bridge demolition begins in downtown Houston, garage to follow May 4

Crews began demolishing the sky bridge at Avenida South parking garage in downtown Houston Friday at 7 a.m., per Houston First Corporation. Workers will break the bridge's glass before a crane removes the structure, then demolish the garage itself on May 4, eliminating 1,459 spaces to make room for the George R. Brown Convention Center expansion. Avenida De las Americas between McKinney and Lamar will close to vehicles, and Polk from Chartres to Avenida De las Americas will close to bike traffic.
