McBryde Quadrangle demolition begins at University of South Carolina in Columbia

Crews at the University of South Carolina in Columbia have started tearing down McBryde Quadrangle, a 1955 residence hall that housed 250 male underclassmen for 71 years. Rising maintenance costs drove the decision, and demolition is expected to take about a month. The site will be replaced by a six-story complex accommodating nearly 900 students, part of USC Next, a 10-year campus housing master plan, with move-in targeted for fall 2028.
