Demolition begins on Olympia's General Administration Building, $16.5 million project

Demolition is underway on the vacant General Administration Building at 210 11th Avenue SW on Washington's Capitol campus in Olympia, managed by the state Department of Enterprise Services. The six-story, 283,865-square-foot structure contains asbestos, lead paint and toxic light ballasts; crews have removed salvageable items, including a bronze seal, and are now clearing hazardous materials. The $16.5 million project sees major demolition begin mid-August, wrapping up in November, with the cleared site paved over as a laydown area for equipment and materials.
