Grant Sawyer building demolition begins in Las Vegas, clears way for 290 homes

GGG Demolition Inc. began tearing down the vacant Grant Sawyer state government building at 555 E. Washington Ave. near downtown Las Vegas on July 23, with the work expected to finish within 12 weeks. Lennar Corp., which bought the 22-acre site along with the adjacent Cashman Center property, is handling demolition and its costs ahead of building 290 single-family homes there as part of a roughly 1,100-home affordable housing project. The first homes are expected to go on sale within 24 months.
