1898 & Co. white paper urges early planning for power plant decommissioning costs

1898 & Co., part of Burns & McDonnell, has released a white paper examining how power plant owners can account for future decommissioning costs during a facility's operating life. The paper, authored by Amin Haque, Stephen Henson and Jacob Waller, covers dismantling, waste handling, environmental remediation and site restoration, noting that timing for such obligations varies and depends on regulatory, contractual and site-related requirements. It argues early cost estimates can inform financial planning and operational decisions before retirement.
